After studying and “reading” this page in this book for several weeks, Spud finally won me over to his desire to try finger painting.
He’s enjoyed watercolors throughout the summer, but this new activity let him experiment with another fascination: mixing colors.
Just a few weeks ago when he told us he wanted a pink room, and we said, “No”, he quickly replied that he would instead like a red and white room (red + white = pink). He’s a sly one.
Initially, the fact that the store had only four colors of paint seemed somewhat limiting. However that enabled him to try out the concept of mixing colors for himself. With watercolors he’d never really thought about it because twelve or more colors were already there in the tray.
It’s thrilling to watch a child take something from the pages of a book and experience it in real life for the first time.
